I went through a phase of making lots of implements: cutlery, pens, anything that could be held in the hand.
But my favourite hand held implement is spoons, I still get excited by spoons and the incredible variety of functions and also the way different silversmiths/makers attach a unique purpose or meaning to them.
*Peening spoons is a process whereby the desired shape of the bowl of the spoon can be formed into a shallow bowl by hitting on a flat plate with a variety of hammers. By starting from the inside of the shape and gradually working outwards taking care not to go right to the edge, the metal is stretched. As it stretches it starts to make the shape form into a shallow bowl.
